Givecamp New England 2012

I am sitting in the Microsoft NERD center, it is 11:00 at night. The place is still full; of people and tents.

This evening 30 nonprofits from all over New England got help with various projects to help them grow and meet the needs of their community. With over 100 volunteers from Project Managers to Designers the NERD center is overflowing with karma. We have one weekend to do good for the people who do good everyday in their community. This is my first year and already I can say it won’t be my last.

I have been to the NERD center one other time: Podcamp Boston. I know how they take care of their guests. They have made this weekend very comfortable even allowing our tent city to be born. The kitchen is stocked and the technology is flowing.

Our sponsors have been generous donating food and swag. Some of them include: Green Mountain Coffee, HealthcareSource, and Oomph! All of our meals are included for the weekend, which is huge cause we will work up an appetite. This is a full list of sponsors.

The Non-profits range from just beginning to organizations that have been operating for decades. Some of them include: Rock and Roll Library, 2020 Vision Quest, Kevin’s Community Center, and Boston’s Women’s Fund. This is a list and their teams.

The best part is the karma. We are helping community figures who need the help to grow. Whether it be a new logo, a new website, or a re-design we are here to help. Personally I liked that I could do another piece of work for an organization I might not have been able to meet before.

Looking ahead to the weekend I am excited for not only the work, but some of the workshops like Managing a WordPress Site, Digital/Web Strategy and Social Media for Non-profits. I also am looking forward to our Saturday night Fiesta! for Cinco De Mayo. Keeping up with fun get together there are raffles, movies and a group picture.

All in all I think this weekend will combine fun, hard work and most of all a whole lot of good karma.
